Safety in Design
Safe design can be improved when considering luminance contrast. The ability to see the edges of stair treads, changes in floor levels and grades, edges of doorways or fully glazed panels will reduce impact hazards and the chances of slips, trips and falls.
These requirements should be confirmed during the development of the design and all materials, finishes and surfaces can be specified ensuring compliance with the minimum requirements.
This should also include ensuring an accessible car parking bollard achieves a high contrast to the surrounding area to help reduce the chance of vehicles hitting the bollard.
